New Book Alert!
and a *special offer* if you read all the way to the end
I’m very excited to be able to finally show you my newest edited volume, Fascist Legacies: Far Right Ideologies Then and Now. The official publication date is August 1, but I just received my copy in the mail!
This is the third volume that I’ve co-edited with my friend Gerald Steinacher in our Contemporary Holocaust Studies book series with the University of Nebraska Press. We’ve been thrilled with the reception of our first two books, Unlikely Heroes and Antisemitism on the Rise, which are being used to educate teachers and in classrooms around the world. And based on the buzz throughout the production process, as well as the fact that it’s coming out right before some fairly important elections, we’re happily anticipating a lot of interest in this one. I’m very proud of this volume; I think the essays in it are first-rate and cover a wide range of incredibly timely topics.
Here’s a brief sketch of the new book, from the publisher:
The world has changed since the 1930s, but human nature has not. What can we learn when comparing far-right populism in the United States to far-right populism elsewhere? How can we better understand the underlying ideas and ideologies that seem to transcend time and place? How can we best address them? How can we communicate what we have learned about these issues to those outside of academia? These are the central questions in the three-part conversation of Fascist Legacies.
The first part of the book examines the rise of authoritarianism in Europe, the United States, and Latin America; the second part analyzes aspects of the far right and discusses the best strategies for teaching about fascism; and the third part focuses on the relationship between white nationalism, individual Christian churches in the United States, and antisemitism in the past and present. By discussing different aspects of the current global rise of right-wing populism, Fascist Legacies helps readers better understand what is happening in our societies.
We’re in the process of planning a number of book launch events this Fall with some of our exceptional co-authors; the first will be on August 27 in Lincoln, so put that in your calendar if you live nearby. And, of course, I’d be happy to travel, so if you want to get an audience together to talk about fascism just send me a note and let’s plan something.
In the meantime, I have a special offer for all of you fine people who are interested enough in my ideas to spend a few minutes each week reading whatever I happen to post here on Substack:
The first 5 new paid annual subscribers will get a signed copy of Fascist Legacies.
